Geneva 2 Syria: blocked by the U.S. and its allies

Coalition delegation of so-called "opposition" rejects a political communiqué containing principles submitted by official Syrian delegaiton

Geneva, Jan 27, 2014 (SANA delegate) – The Syrian Arab Republic's official delegation to the Geneva 2 Conference presented a "basic elements of a political communiqué" containing principles which the coalition delegation of the so-called "opposition" rejected.

The communiqué affirms respecting Syria's sovereignty, restoring its usurped lands, preserving its establishments, and abandoning all forms of extremism, fanaticism and takfiri ideas.

The communiqué rejects all forms of interference or foreign dictation, with the Syrians deciding upon their country's future using democratic methods, in addition to asserting that that it's not permissible to relinquish any part of Syria.

The communiqué stresses that the Syrian Arab Republic is a democratic country based on the basis of political pluralism, the rule of law, independence of the judiciary and citizenship, and protecting national unity and cultural diversity of the components of the Syrian society and protecting public freedom, and the Syrians are the ones who have have the right to choose their political system withoutout compromising on any subject unacceptable to the syrian people from any imposed formulae.

The communiqué asks all countries to prevent supplying weapons or training or harboring terrorists, and also stopping all kinds of media hatred incitment to perpetrate terrorist acts in accordance with international resolutions relevant to combating terrorism.

The communiqué also noted that the state establishment cost people money and hard work and therefore must be preserved, in addition to stressing the need to preserve and protect all state establishments and utilities, infrastructure, and public and private properties.

Sources close to the Syrian official delegation to Geneva asserted that the delegation was and still is open to discussing all points, but it proposed these principles which no patriotic Syrian would reject in order to find common ground, yet the coalition delegation of the so-called "opposition" rejected them.

The American Spring: US left Iraq in violent pieces

iraq.jpg.jpg

Fallujah.Iraq.jpg

November 1, 2013 - US spent trillions and left Iraq in violent pieces

As Iraq's prime minister visits Washington, BBC North America bureaux chief Paul Danahar, who was based in Baghdad during the US-led invasion, says the country America left behind is broken, and Middle Eastern strong men are flexing their muscles.

Only people with no long-term vested interest in the well-being of the subjects of a state could have conjured up Iraq.

Neither the country nor the political power structures within it would have naturally come about without the intervention of foreigners.

The Arab nationalism of Saddam Hussein's Baathism was a reaction to the selfish audacity of colonial rule.

The above is also broadly true in Syria. Neither country now necessarily has a future within its present borders.

Arafat Warns U.S. Could Kill Middle East Peace

RAMALLAH, West Bank – Palestinian President Yasser Arafat told the United States Wednesday it would kill all hope of peace in the Middle East if it gave assurances to Israel on keeping West Bank settlements.

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is in Washington to seek support for a plan to withdraw from Gaza, but keep Jewish enclaves in the West Bank where Palestinians also want a state.

Palestinians fear President Bush will make landmark promises to Sharon that imply backing for Israel’s occupation of land seized in the 1967 Middle East war and reject the eventual right of Palestinian refugees to return.

A statement from Arafat’s office said such an agreement would “lead to the destruction of the chances for the peace process and security and stability in the region. It will also restart the vicious cycle of violence in the region and end all the agreements and commitments that have been signed.”

Arafat urged rejection for any such deal from Arab states, Islamic countries and the world in general, saying it would violate international laws and cancel the “road map” peace plan that Bush has backed.

U.S. refuses to compensate victims of chemical weapons in Vietnam

Vietnam dioxin

From 1961 to 1971, approximately 19 million gallons of chemical agents including Agent Orange, were sprayed over the southern region of Vietnam. Much of it was contaminated with dioxin, a deadly chemical. Dioxin causes various forms of cancers, reproductive illnesses, immune deficiencies, endocrine deficiencies, nervous system damage, and physical and developmental disabilities.

So while the US government is attempting to “police the world” in search of chemical weapons, it is important to remember the long history that they have of using these weapons themselves.

United States support for Iraq during the Iran–Iraq War, against post-revolutionary Iran, included several billion dollars worth of economic aid, the sale of dual-use technology, non-U.S. origin weaponry, military intelligence, Special Operations training, and direct involvement in warfare against Iran.

Support from the U.S. for Iraq was not a secret and was frequently discussed in open session of the Senate and House of Representatives. On June 9, 1992, Ted Koppel reported on ABC's Nightline, "It is becoming increasingly clear that George Bush, operating largely behind the scenes throughout the 1980s, initiated and supported much of the financing, intelligence, and military help that built Saddam's Iraq into the power it became", and "Reagan/Bush administrations permitted—and frequently encouraged—the flow of money, agricultural credits, dual-use technology, chemicals, and weapons to Iraq."

U.S. supports al-Qaeda in Syria

US indirectly supports al-Qaeda in Syria: Franklin Lamb

Press TV has conducted an interview with Franklin Lamb, international lawyer, about French paper Le Figaro saying after Saudi Arabia, the US is second in line to lead al-Qaeda forces fighting against the Syrian government.

What follows is an approximate transcription of the interview.

Press TV: Let’s jump right in. Give us your opinion on the revelations by the French newspaper.

Lamb: Well I think they are credible. I think they are widely believed and have been over the past nearly one year as more and more similar reports and evidences surface.

So I think that even if we accept that Turkey and Qatar and Saudi Arabia, and I think we must, are overtly supporting al-Qaeda and the terrorist groups, I think the West is doing it indirectly maybe sub-rosa, maybe not totally comfortable with it but the combination of both forces means that the al-Qaeda has enormous fire power and enormous encouragement to expand its operations because of the funding from the West and the [Persian] Gulf.

Press TV: And how do you perceive the level and the extent of the involvement of those regional parties as revealed by Le Figaro, as you mentioned we have got Qatar, Turkey, of course Saudi Arabia and even former Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri's name has come up?

Lamb: Well I think in an operation like this if they are in for an inch, they are in for a mile. There is no such thing as a penny operation here it is going to be substantial and we see that consistently.

Remember Libya; it was going to be a little operation. That was an all-out war. So I think history teaches us very clearly that they are going to have massive, massive arms in order to “achieve their victory”.

So I think it is going to increase unless a stop is put to it.

As a reminder:

'The Bush administration then turned its attention to Iraq, and argued the need to remove Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq had become urgent. Among the stated reasons were that Saddam's regime had tried to acquire nuclear material and had not properly accounted for biological and chemical material it was known to have previously possessed, and believed to still maintain. Both the possession of these weapons of mass destruction (WMD), and the failure to account for them, would violate the U.N. sanctions. The assertion about WMD was hotly advanced by the Bush administration from the beginning, but other major powers including China, France, Germany, and Russia remained unconvinced that Iraq was a threat and refused to allow passage of a UN Security Council resolution to authorize the use of force.  Iraq permitted UN weapon inspectors in November 2002, who were continuing their work to assess the WMD claim when the Bush administration decided to proceed with war without UN authorization and told the inspectors to leave the country.  The United States invaded Iraq on March 20, 2003, along with a "coalition of the willing" that consisted of additional troops from the United Kingdom, and to a lesser extent, from Australia and Poland. Within about three weeks, the invasion caused the collapse of both the Iraqi government and its armed forces, however, the U.S. and allied forces failed to find any weapon of mass destruction in Iraq. Traces of former materials and weapons labs were reported to have been located, but no "smoking guns". Nevertheless, on May 1, George W. Bush landed on the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, in a Lockheed S-3 Viking, where he gave a speech announcing the end of "major combat operations" in the Iraq war. Bush's approval rating in May was at 66%, according to a CNN-USA Today-Gallup poll.  However, Bush's high approval ratings did not last. First, while the war itself was popular in the U.S., the reconstruction and attempted "democratization" of Iraq lost some support as months passed and casualty figures increased, with no decrease in violence nor progress toward stability or reconstruction. Second, as investigators combed through the country, they failed to find the predicted WMD stockpiles, which led to debate over the rationale for the war.'

Credibility gap is a political term that came into wide use during the 1960s and 1970s. At the time, it was most frequently used to describe public skepticism about the Lyndon B. Johnson Vietnam War.
Today, it is used more generally to describe almost any "gap" between the reality of a situation and what politicians and government agencies say about it.

Just this week BBC reported that:

The Vietnam War ended nearly 40 years ago, but the casualties continue as birth defects plague the country.  There are claims that thousands of children continue to be born with horrific facial deformities due to the 20 million gallons of Agent Orange chemical sprayed by the United States.  The Vietnamese call the disfigured youngsters ‘the children of Agent Orange’.  Da Nang in central Vietnam is thought to have the highest level of congenital deformity in the world.

There are also many US veterans who suffer from agent orange poisoning, causing thousands of birth defects in America as well.  Just recently the veterans began to receive compensation for their suffering, however the millions in Vietnam who are effected will likely never see any kind of real help from the agencies responsible.
