Moscow, (SANA) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his U.S. counterpart John Kerry stressed the importance of conducting an objective investigation into reports on possible use of chemical weapons in Damascus Countryside in Syria two days ago.
A statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry said Lavrov made phone calls with Kerry, highlighting the need that the armed opposition's groups ensure a safe entry for the UN investigators to the region where reports said the possible chemical attack took place.
The statement pointed out that Russia has called upon Syria to cooperate with the UN experts.
It added that Moscow expects the "Syrian opposition" to make constructive steps towards getting the international conference on Syria held so as to find a solution to the crisis as soon as possible.
Russia: Syrian 'opposition' hinders chemical weapons use investigation
The Syrian opposition hinders conducting an objective investigation into an allege use of chemical weapons in Syria, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Alexander Lukashevich said in a statement on Friday that Moscow got no signal that the Syrian opposition is ready to ensure the safety of the international experts in Syria.
Lukashevich urged all influential sides to take the necessary measures to see to that the UN experts' missions are carried out.
Moscow is in constant communication with the Syrian leadership and encourages constructive cooperation with the UN investigators, the Russian diplomat said, indicating that Moscow ''views with appreciation'' Damascus' approval to the visit of the UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs which it sees ''very important.''
In the same context, Lukashevich described as ''unacceptable'' the calls to pressure the UN Security Council into passing a resolution that authorizes the use of force against Syria.
''It is strange that these statements come from those who obstructed last March the Syrian government's call for a prompt and impartial investigation into the Syrian opposition's use of chemical weapons in Khan al-Assal residential area,'' he added.
Syria has demanded that the UN conducts an objective probe into a chemical weapons use by the armed terrorist groups against civilians in Khan al-Assal area last March, but London and Paris had brought pressure to bear on the UN Secretary-General in a bid to obstruct the investigation.
The US: We are unable to conclusively determine chemical weapons use
Earlier, the US announced that it is unable to confirm reports that spoke of an alleged gas attack in Damascus Countryside last Wednesday.
"At this time we are unable to conclusively determine chemical weapon use," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters Thursday afternoon.
"We are focused on doing everything possible within our power to nail down the facts," she added.
The General Command of the Army and the Armed Forces earlier stressed in a statement that there was no truth whatsoever to the false allegations made by the tendentious media channels on the Syrian army's use of chemical weapons in areas in Damascus Countryside.
The Command affirmed that such allegations are part of the dirty media war led by some countries against Syria.

UN officials say alleged chemical weapons attacks which Syria's opposition says killed hundreds near Damascus were a "serious escalation".
Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson made the comments after briefing an emergency UN Security Council meeting about Wednesday's incident.
The Security Council also said that clarity was needed over the attacks.
Some 35 member states called for UN weapons inspectors already in Syria to be dispatched immediately to the scene.
Opposition activists said that more than 1,000 people were killed after government forces launched rockets with toxic agents into the Damascus suburbs in the Ghouta region early on Wednesday.
The Syrian government has denied the allegations, describing them as "illogical and fabricated". The Syrian army said the opposition made up the claims to divert attention from the huge losses its forces had suffered recently.
The BBC has been unable to independently confirm the death toll.

Deputy Premier, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem considered that the Israeli interest in the events in Syria and the region became clear as the statements of the Israeli officials that they would not allow the resistance to win lead to this fact.
"Israel is satisfied over the escalation of terrorism in the region, destruction of infrastructure, exhausting the economies, Arab armies, particularly in Syria, Iraq and Egypt… it is happy over the destruction in the region," the Minister said at a political review at the Foreign Ministry, in the presence of Syrian journalists, political analysts and Minister of Information Omran al-Zoubi.
He referred to a clear relation between the events in the Arab region in the nature of conflict, the identity of the conflicting powers among national, pan-Arab powers which work through an independent national decision and those terrorist extremist powers who move through the support of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, the US and Israel.
"The scale of field and political accounts tends to the interest of national powers and the resistance with a change in the political overview in Egypt and the severe blow that the extremist Islamist movement, led by Turkey, received by the collapse of Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt." Minister al-Moallem said.
He added that the Saudi regime seeks to inflame the situation and obstructs the convening of Geneva conference as it is the case with the US stance which renounces its understanding with the Russian side.
"Any political analysis to the ongoing events in Syria should start from observing the Israeli stance which intervened, as a main player, in the field when it raided and attacked three Syrian sites and received wounded terrorist in its hospitals," the Minister went on to say.
He referred to the harmony between the Israeli stance and that of the opposition abroad who welcomed the Israeli decision to allow arming the terrorist groups in Syria.
"The basis of the Syrian national stance is the independent decision… what distinguishes the Syrian policy is that it is independent and stems from the national interest," Deputy Prime Minister said.
On the US stance, the Minister underlined that the US wants the continuation of terrorism and violence in Syria as long as this comes in the interest of the Israeli interest, so it postpones the Russian efforts to hold Geneva conference and this stance meets with the Gulf stance, particularly the Saudi one.
Al-Moallem considered the U.S.-Saudi stance as "directly influencing the opposition abroad which is presenting preconditions and does not adopt a clear stance on the participation in Geneva conference."
Al-Moallem said that what is happening in Egypt is an important factor in the Syrian developments as Egyptians are protesting against the Muslim Brotherhood movement after they considered it as a terrorist movement, adding that the fall of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt embarrasses the Turkish government of Erdogan.
Concerning the situation in Iraq, al-Moallem said that the Iraqis are facing what the Syrians have been facing and they are exerting all efforts to combat terrorism on their territories.
Regarding the situation in Lebanon, the Foreign Minister said that there is a movement that offers weapons and support to the armed terrorist groups and another movement that did not hesitate to courageously support the stance of the Syrian state.
He pointed out that the enemies of Syria are now preparing the Jordanian front as an alternative to Turkey through the flow of gunmen and weapons across the Jordanian borders, in addition to the entry of the head of the "Doha Coalition" to the Syrian territories from Jordan.
Al-Moallem pointed out that EU countries are exerting attempts to communicate with Syria and there are also attempts to come back to Syria by some European countries through humanitarian organizations; however, Syria rejects these attempts.

'The Caucasus Emirate Goes Global'
For a decade almost all observers ignored, downplayed, and obfuscated an ugly truth about 'separatists' in Chechnya and the North Caucasus: they have long been a jihadist organization allied with Al Qa`ida (AQ), its affiliates, and the larger global jihadi revolutionary alliance AQ inspired. The ‘jihadization’ of the Chechen and Caucasus mujahedin began in the mid-1990s and culminated in October 2007 with the formation of the 'Caucasus Emirate' (CE) in place of the radically nationalist 'Chechen Republic of Ichkeriya' and the CE's declaration of jihad against not just Russia but the U.S., Britain, Israel and "any country fighting Muslims anywhere around the world," as CE amir Dokku Umarov warned.
The CE follows and propagandizes the same radical Salafi jihadist theo-ideology professed by AQ and its affiliates without becoming one of them. CE websites began to contain the very same propaganda and training materials found on AQ and its affiliates’ websites. This year Umarov included the U.S. among the “unclean ones” who need to be swept from the earth.

'Russia Must React to Hostile U.S., NATO Actions in the Caucasus'
Republic News Agency (South Ossetia)
The attempts of the West to create the anti-Russian sentiments in the Caucasus require more active and effective reaction of Russia
Western countries, which maintain the leading positions in the aggressive military-political bloc of NATO, actively continue to intervene in the internal affairs of Russia.
Their goal, in particular, is the expulsion of Russia from South Ossetia, the destruction of the South Ossetian State (and also, as in 1991-2008, the holocaust of the people of South Ossetia) as well as destabilization of the situation in the North Caucasus in order to separate it from Russia and make it their protectorate and a springboard for further military actions against the rest of the Russian state.
In this case, the myth of the imposition of some sort of “Russian occupation” of South Ossetia and Abkhazia ranks first. Amazingly, not only Russian propaganda, but in some cases even Russian officials in international organizations completely ignore the danger that lurks in this. This is evidenced by the fact that one of them “abstained” from voting for a resolution containing calumnious inventions about “occupation” [of South Ossetia asnd Abkhazia].
Meanwhile, the political activities of the Western officials that are the component parts of advocacy for representing Russia as the aggressor are increasing, which pose a threat to peace and stability in Georgia and in the Caucasus region as a whole.
Thus, the OSCE Secretary General has proposed to discuss “the risk of recurrence of Russia’s military aggression against Georgia” within the framework of the “Forum on Cooperation and Security.”
“If the Georgian side is concerned about it, we will consider this issue at the conference, which will be held soon in France,” said Lamberto Zannier in Tbilisi. For some reason, he has mentioned some concerns of Georgia, though only Georgia is the aggressor and the source of destabilization in the Caucasus.
And the well-grounded apprehension of South Ossetia, Abkhazia and Russia, whose soldiers and civilians were killed by the NATO arms of the Georgian army, is hypocritically ignored by the Western politicians. It’s safe to say that the representatives of South Ossetia will not be invited to this event and the neocolonialists will be speaking whatever they want behind our back.
A powerful U.S. senator, John McCain, is “concerned” about the Russian threat to Georgia. He spoke about it in his interview to Georgian journalists within the framework of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Monaco: “I am very concerned about the overt threat of Russia to Georgia and military exercises at the border with Georgia scheduled for autumn; we in Congress are doing everything to supply Georgia with defensive weapons.”
This statement sounds in unison with the first, where he has said that these politicians are not voicing their own opinion; directives on what to say and what phrases to use are sent them centrally.
Moreover, with his statement McCain has recognized unwittingly that till now the West was sending to Georgia not defensive but offensive weapons, so it considered it a country which had to attack and attack, but not to defend itself. The reaction of Russia in 2008 was rejected by the West, so Georgia had not been supplied with defensive arms – just with offensive ones.
All these military-raising activities are aimed at supporting the American stooge, Mikhail Saakashvili, on whom the West is placing high expectations in its fight against Russia. With some hidden design, expressing the true reason of his “concern”, the U.S. Senator emphasized that he was “confident in the Georgian people, and they will make the right choice at the fall elections to the parliament of Georgia.”
These actions require the creation of favorable conditions for the public and non-governmental organizations in Russia and South Ossetia for more active participation in international forums and more effective protection of the interests of Russia and South Ossetia at the international level and in the international media space.
