Iraq PM in talks on Syria during Iran trip

December 4, 2013

Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki arrived in Iran on Wednesday, state television reported, for two days of talks that will also focus on the conflict raging in Syria. It is Maliki’s first visit to Tehran since Hassan Rouhani, a relative moderate who champions engagement with the West, became Iran’s president in August after defeating a pool of conservative candidates in a June election.

Maliki’s spokesman Ali Mussawi told AFP in Baghdad the premier’s talks would focus on energy cooperation and “the necessity of fighting terrorism”.

Latest News Syria: Peace Talks

June 20, 2013 - 'Syrian Rebels: We've Received Heavy Weapons from Saudis':
The first delivery of heavy weapons has arrived on Syria’s front lines following President Barack Obama’s decision to put Western military might behind the official opposition, rebels told the British Daily Telegraph. More have now arrived, confirming reports that the White House has lifted an unofficial embargo on its Gulf allies sending heavy weapons to the rebels. “We now have supplies from Saudi Arabia,” a rebel source said. “We have been told more weapons are on their way, even higher-end missiles.” European Union foreign ministers agreed at the end of May to lift an arms embargo in order to supply weapons to Syrian rebels, but British Foreign Secretary William Hague said at the time that "no immediate decision" would be made on sending arms to the rebels.  "Terrorists will return to Europe with fighting experience and extremist ideologies," President Assad told the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

November 7, 2013- Saudi Arabia to spend millions to train new rebel force - Syrian, Arab and western sources say the intensifying Saudi effort is focused on Jaysh al-Islam (the Army of Islam or JAI), created in late September by a union of 43 Syrian groups. Diplomats and experts warned that there are serious doubts about its prospects as well as fears of "blowback" by extremists returning from Syria. The Saudi intelligence chief, Prince Bandar bin Sultan, is also pressing the US to drop its objections to supplying anti-aircraft and anti-tank missiles to the JAI. Jordan is being urged to allow its territory to be used as a supply route into neighbouring Syria. (The Guardian)

November 26, 2013 - 'Saudi Arabia Should Withdraw from U.N. Human Rights Council': At the very moment that the U.N. General Assembly was voting to elect Saudi Arabia to the Human Rights Council earlier this month, Saudi police officers, assisted by vigilante mobs, launched an iron-fisted effort to round up and deport millions of undocumented foreign workers. The campaign reportedly entailed imprisoning, killing, and raping African and Asian migrants within its borders and provoked a violent protest by some migrants in the capital.

December 3, 2013 - The Saudi Arabian and Western 'Civil War' in Syria...
Saudi officials have said they are now fighting two wars in Syria: One against the regime, and the other against the growing ranks of al Qaeda-allied fighters flocking to the battlefield. Bandar bin Sultan, the Saudi prince overseeing his country's support for the rebels, vowed to kill both Mr. Assad and extremists among the rebels. For most of the past two years, Saudi Arabia concentrated its support on the more secular, nationalist force of the so called Free Syrian Army. During that time, the kingdom spent $400 million on arms and equipment funneled to the force, according to the Western diplomat briefed by Saudis.  The Saudis are now pinning much of their hopes in Syria on a strengthening 'rebel force' called Jaish al-Islam, or Army of Islam. Qatar arranged a meeting between the Saudi Arabian Islamists and envoys from the U.S., the U.K., France, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and other members of the London 11 on the outskirts of the Turkish capital Ankara. Latest News Palestine: Peace Talks

November 15, 2010:  U.S. President Barack Obama praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for urging his cabinet to accept a U.S. proposal to extend a freeze on West Bank settlement building for 90 days. Under the plan, Washington would block UN resolutions critical of Israel, and supply Israel with fighter jets worth $3 billion. The US government also promised Israel that after the 90-day moratorium, they would not seek an extension, and settlement construction in the West Bank and East Jerusalem (all of which is illegal under international law) could continue unabated.

February 2011: More than 100 nations voted for a U.N. resolution that would have condemned illegal Israeli settlements and halted any new construction. The United States vetoed it.

February 19, 2011:  Israel said it was deeply grateful to the United States after it vetoed a United Nations resolution put forward by the Palestinian leadership condemning Israeli settlement activity.

Foreign Ministry: Syria calls on UNSC to condemn terrorist acts

Dec 2, 2013

Damascus, (SANA) – Foreign and Expatriates Ministry sent on Monday two identical letters to the chairman of the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary-General on the attack launched early this morning by the armed terrorist groups on Maloula town in Damascus countryside and sabotage of churches and houses.

In the letters, the Ministry said, "In Several letters sent already, we stressed that the Syrian Arab Republic is facing a barbarian war launched by extremist takfiri gangs targeting its present and future."

The Ministry added that the terrorist takfiri groups attacked Monday morning the ancient town of Maloula in Damascus countryside which is the only town in the world where the habitants are still speaking the language of Jesus Christ and they sabotaged the churches and houses of the civilians and broke into St. Thecla Convent and held Mother Superior Pelagia Sayyaf and a number of nuns hostage.

The Ministry said, "Another proof of the armed terrorist groups' scorn of religious symbols of various religions and denominations is the terrorists' mortar attack on the Great Umayyad Mosque on 30/11/2013 in Damascus which caused the martyrdom of 4 citizens, including a child and a woman, and the injury of 26 others. The terrorists also destroyed recently several religious shrines in Aleppo city.'

"Given these facts, we call on the Security Council to condemn these terrorist acts in the strongest terms, and we call on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities and exert pressure on the countries which are supporting these groups to stop providing them with logistical and financial support," the Ministry added.

Israeli mid-night invasions and aggression continues in Ni’lin; four guys arrested.

For a while the village of Ni’lin almost believed that the nightly raids had stopped. Last week there was only one invasion. But now it seems like the Israeli occupation is planning to try to break the resistance in Ni’lin by New Year’s Eve.

Wednesday morning at 02:30 am the village was invaded by 20 jeeps and four people were arrested.

Ibrahim Kawaja, 22, Waleed Srour, 22 and Mohammed Khawaja, 25, and Mohammed Ratib, 25, who is also the brother of Arafat Nafi who was killed during a peaceful demonstration in 2008.

Three other young men were sought by the soldiers but not found. The soldiers left interrogation papers demanding that the men surrender themselves to Ofer military prison.

Syria, Palestine: Israeli occupation

November 26, 2013

New York, (SANA) – Syria's Permanent Representative to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari said that the Israeli occupation entity seeks to find conditions of explosion in the region because, as its leaders admit, it can’t continue without a war, so it sponsors terrorism in the region.

In a speech during the meeting of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (UNISPAL) at the UN on Tuesday, al-Jaafari said that in light of the policy of fait accompli which Israel tires to impose, it's unacceptable that the UN and the member states deal with it in routine or solidarity without any productive act.

He reminded of the UN general Assembly resolution No. 273 for 1949 which specified the acceptance of Israel's membership at the UN, mainly on the condition that it would commit to resolutions relevant to the Palestinian issue which affirm the Palestinian people's right in establishing their state with Jerusalem as its capital and their right to return home.

Al-Jaafari said that Israel's escaping from punishment encouraged it to escalate its hostile practices and violation of human rights and international law.

"Part of the Syrian territories is still under occupation, since more than 45 years, despite the Security Council unanimous resolution No. 497 for 1981 which considered Israel's decision to annex the Syrian Golan in 1981 null and void and without legal basis, and based on this, the UN is required to shoulder its responsibilities to force Israel to apply to its resolutions," al-Jaafari said.

" It is unacceptable that the UN has failed in forcing Israel carry out the international resolutions, stop its flagrant, systemized violations of the Syrians' right under occupation in Golan, put an end to the apartheid, looting the natural Golan resources, including oil, gas and water ," al-Jaafari said.

He added that Israel has lately marketed for a kind of wine produced in its settlements in the occupied Syrian Golan; it markets it in a number of UN member states which vote against Israel polices, and perhaps these countries don't know that the wine comes from the Israeli settlements in Golan.

"It is also unacceptable that Israel continues the campaigns of the feverish settlement in the Syrian Golan, building a racial separation wall to the East of the occupied Majdal Shams city and rejecting handing over the mine fields' maps, planted in the Golan termites, to the international organizations," al-Jaafair said.

He held Israel and its politicians responsible for sponsoring terrorism and involving in cooperation, protecting the armed terrorist groups in the UNDOF.

Al-Jaafari affirmed that the choice of the just and comprehensive peace wouldn't not be achieved except by Israel's full withdrawal from the Arab territories into the line of June 4th, 1967, the establishment of the Palestinian independent state with Jerusalem as its capital and resolving the Palestinian refugees issue according to resolution No. 194 for 1948.

Frits Bolkestein: Verhofstadt ‘is barking at the moon’

Screen Shot 2013-09-11 at 21.00.36

Brussels, November 19, 2013

The Dutch liberal politician and former EU Commissioner Frits Bolkestein has launched a scathing attack against Guy Verhofstadt, who leads the liberal and pro-European ALDE group in the European Parliament,

Verhofstadt and his fellow European federalist supporters, are a greater danger to the European Union than eurosceptics, Bolkestein said in a recent interview.

The liberal leader and his federalist backers are “barking at the moon” when discussing the future of the European Union, the former EU commissioner argued.

Bolkenstein concurred with earlier remarks made by Mark Verheijen, the liberal party VVD’s spokesperson on European issues, that “Europhiles like Martin Schulz or Verhofstadt are a great danger to Europe than eurosceptics or anti-Europe populists”.

Bolkestein was the first former European Commissioner to publicly back a breakup of the euro, saying in the Dutch paper Algemeen Dagblad that the Netherlands had to exit the euro as quickly as possible. “The monetary union has totally failed. The euro turned out to be a sleeping pill which made Europe doze off instead of thinking about our competitiveness,” he said.

Guy Verhofstadt dreams of a federal European superstate: “A federal EU is the only option. The EU should have its own president, foreign minister, army and prosecutor”.

Verhofstadt on Lybia: “The weak position of the EU makes me sick”

Verhofstadt on Syria: “The time for peace talks is over, we need action now. If the UN doesn’t react, then NATO should.”

Verhofstadt is since 2012 a Board Member of the Brussels-based, Brussels-quoted Sofina holding (petroleum gas and oil platforms). The Belgian industrialist Viscount Etienne Davignon, Chairman of the Bilderberg Group, is Honorary Director of Sofina.

On 20 February 2009 the European Parliament voted in favour of the creation of Synchronised Armed Forces Europe (SAFE) as a first step towards a true European military force. SAFE will be directed by an EU directorate, with its own training standards and operational doctrine. There are also plans to create an EU “Council of Defence Ministers” and “a European statute for soldiers within the framework of Safe governing training standards, operational doctrine and freedom of operational action”.
