A bomb has exploded near the Swedish consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Initial reports indicated that the building sustained heavy damages, but that no one had been hurt in the blast.

No one was injured in the attack, according to initial reports. However, the explosion left the building heavily damaged.

Libyan officials have struggled to maintain peace in the country since the 2011 civil war.

The bombing came a day after gunmen released Libyan Prime Minister Ali Zidan from captivity. The abduction appeared to be in retaliation for the Libyan government's alleged involvement in the US capture of a suspected al-Qaeda militant over the weekend.

The attack also came in the wake of an assault on Russia's embassy in Tripoli by an armed group less than two weeks ago.

On September 11, militants linked to al-Qaeda affiliates attacked the US consulate in Benghazi, killing the US ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.

Palestinians mark 9th anniversary of Arafat death

Palestinians hold posters and candles as they commemorate the death of the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat at the Damascus Gate in the Old City of al-Quds (Jerusalem) on November11, 2013.

Nov 11, 2013

Thousands of Palestinians have marked the ninth death anniversary of the late leader of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Yasser Arafat.

Carrying portraits of Arafat, the Palestinians marched in several cities in the occupied West Bank to commemorate his demise on Monday.

On November 5, a Swiss laboratory investigating Arafat's death submitted the results to representatives of his widow, Suha Arafat, as well as representatives of the Palestinian Authority (PA).

The Swiss scientists, who tested samples taken from Arafat's corpse, said the tests showed "unexpected high activity" of polonium-210, which "moderately" supported the poisoning theory.

The scientists -- from the Vaudois University Hospital Centre (CHUV) in Lausanne, Switzerland -- carried out a detailed examination of Arafat's medical records, samples taken from his remains, which were exhumed in November of last year, and items he had taken into the hospital in Paris where he died.

David Barclay, a British forensic scientist who had studied the report, said, "The report contains strong evidence, in my view conclusive evidence, that there's at least 18 times the level of polonium in Arafat's exhumed body than there should be."

Many Palestinian officials believe that Israel poisoned Arafat.

China, India, Russia stress political solution to Syria crisis

NEW DELHI, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- China, India and Russia Sunday stressed the need to find a political solution to the Syria crisis, said Indian Minister of External Affairs Salman Khurshid after a trilateral foreign ministers' meeting here.

The Russian foreign minister Seigei Lavrov also said the three foreign ministers agreed that a peaceful solution, rather than military solution, is the only way to end the civil war in Syria.
Lavrov also said all three countries hope the Geneva II conference on Syria should be held as soon as possible and that U. N. inspectors should be given access to the chemical stockages.

The three foreign ministers also discussed the situation in Afghanistan.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the Afghanistan is one of the most important issues for the region.
"We hope to see a safe, stable, unified and developing Afghanistan. We actively participate in the reconstruction of Afghanistan, which is in an important period of transition," said Wang.
A smooth holding of election, an Afghan-decided peace process and U.N. action in coordinating international support to Afghanistan are key elements in a peaceful transition in the country, he said.

China will host an international conference on Afghanistan next year in Tianjin, he said.

Kuwait expelled thousands of Palestinians

This post titled 'Kuwait expelled thousands of Palestinians' was censored  a few times...

The Iran-Iraq War from 1980 to 1988, the 1990 Iraqi Invasion of Kuwait, the first Gulf War and subsequent conflicts all generated hundreds of thousands if not millions of refugees. Iran also provided asylum for 1,400,000 Iraqi refugees who had been uprooted as a result of the Persian Gulf War (1990–91).

Nearly 2.2 million Iraqis have fled the country since 2003, with nearly 100,000 fleeing to Syria and Jordan each month between 2003 and 2006.

Palestinian Forced Displacement from Kuwait: The Overdue Accounting:

Palestinians in Kuwait - Terror and ethnic cleansing

Letter from Bill Clinton to Yasser Arafat

Excerpts from an April 26, 1999, letter from President Bill Clinton to Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat:

Dear Mr. Chairman,

Clearly, the Oslo process has not made the kind of progress we would have hoped to see.

I am asking that you continue to rely on the peace process as the way to fulfill the aspirations of your people. Indeed, negotiations are the only realistic way to fulfill those aspirations.

In this context, and in the spirit of my remarks in Gaza, we support the aspirations of the Palestinian people to determine their own future on their own land. As I said in Gaza, I believe Palestinians should live free today, tomorrow and forever.

The objective of the negotiating process is the implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338, including land for peace, and all other agreements under the Oslo process.

For these negotiations to succeed, it is vital that the environment in which they occur be credible, serious, and fair. The United States knows how destructive settlement activities, land confiscations, and house demolitions are to the pursuit of Palestinian-Israeli peace. In this regard, we will continue to exert maximum efforts to have both parties avoid unilateral steps or actions designed to change the status of the West Bank and Gaza or to prejudge or preempt issues reserved for permanent status negotiations.

Israel Approves Construction of 1,700 New Settlement Homes

On November 15, 2010, U.S. President Barack Obama praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for urging his cabinet to accept a U.S. proposal to extend a freeze on West Bank settlement building for 90 days. Under the plan, Washington would block UN resolutions critical of Israel, and supply Israel with fighter jets worth $3 billion. The US government also promised Israel that after the 90-day moratorium, they would not seek an extension, and settlement construction in the West Bank and East Jerusalem (all of which is illegal under international law) could continue unabated.

Arafat Warns U.S. Could Kill Middle East Peace

RAMALLAH, West Bank – Palestinian President Yasser Arafat told the United States Wednesday it would kill all hope of peace in the Middle East if it gave assurances to Israel on keeping West Bank settlements.

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is in Washington to seek support for a plan to withdraw from Gaza, but keep Jewish enclaves in the West Bank where Palestinians also want a state.

Palestinians fear President Bush will make landmark promises to Sharon that imply backing for Israel’s occupation of land seized in the 1967 Middle East war and reject the eventual right of Palestinian refugees to return.

A statement from Arafat’s office said such an agreement would “lead to the destruction of the chances for the peace process and security and stability in the region. It will also restart the vicious cycle of violence in the region and end all the agreements and commitments that have been signed.”

Arafat urged rejection for any such deal from Arab states, Islamic countries and the world in general, saying it would violate international laws and cancel the “road map” peace plan that Bush has backed.

Latest News Syria: Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister

November 9, 2013

Baghdad, (SANA) – Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Hussain al-Shahristani said that his country affirms that the solution to the crisis in Syria should be political and carried out by all Syrian sides engaging in negotiations without foreign interference.

In an interview given to al-Mayadin TV on Saturday, al-Shahristani said that there are Arab countries which send weapons to terrorists Syria, and that these weapons also find their way to Iraq where they are used in terrorist attacks, noting that his country warned Saudi Arabia that they weapons they send to Syria are also being used to murder Iraqis.

He also said that a small country like Qatar has no right to interfere in other countries' affairs, calling on Qatar to review its policies and realize its actual scale and political weight.

Al-Shahristani said that the disagreement between Iraq and Turkey regarding the Syrian crisis is one of the causes of the tension between them, as Iraq favors a political solution while Turkey sends weapons to armed groups.

He pointed out that Al Qaeda and its affiliates like Jabhat al-Nusra and the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) reject those who disagree with them and mark them for death, noting that ISIS has expanded its activities, carrying out over 1,000 terrorist attacks in Iraq and more than 100 terrorist attacks in Syria.

Arafat's mysterious death

Arafat Headquarters Bombed to Ruin

March 11, 2002

GAZA CITY — It was a vivid symbol of his power and of the state he expected to create and lead. But much of Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat's headquarters lay in ruins Sunday after Israeli warships and combat helicopters blasted the building from the air and sea with about 35 missiles in 45 minutes.

The attack came in retaliation for a pair of horrific Palestinian assaults Saturday--a suicide bombing at a crowded Jerusalem cafe and a shooting rampage at a hotel in the town of Netanya that left 16 people dead and about 100 wounded.
